Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Womack Army Medical Center in Central NC. Incumbent will perform a variety of cooking and food service support duties to facilitate food preparation within the medical treatment facility.

Operations run 7 days a week. Rotating shifts are and 1000 to 1830

Duties
  • Follow procedures to operate and clean equipment.
  • Provide support to a to a medical treatment facility by preparing, cooking, and serving food.
  • Operate cooking equipment and utensils by using multiple heating sources.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of large quantities or individual portions of regular, modified, and special diet menu items for meals within a medical treatment facility.
  • Prepare and cook moderately difficult foods from recipes or other instructions.

  • This position requires incumbent to wear protective shoes.
  • This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 40lbs unassisted, occasionally heavier items with assistance.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Food Handler's Certification.
  • This position is located within a medical treatment facility and is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reason regardless of job series.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Cook duties. I am skilled in preparing large quantities of menu items; utilizing recipes or other instructions to prepare and cook food; operating a variety of food preparation and cooking equipment and utensils; following prescribed procedures to operate and clean equipment; following safety and sanitation procedures required for food handling work.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves prolonged standing and walking, and frequent stooping, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing. The work also involves frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing up to forty pounds; occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance from others.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to extreme temperature changes occurs when entering and exiting refrigeration/freezing units. Injuries such as cuts, bruises, or burns may result from slips on wet floors, touching hot pans, stoves, steamers, ovens, etc., using sharp edged cutting utensils and blades or spills of hot foods, grease or water. The employee is required to wear safety shoes and follow prescribed safety procedures.
