Job Title:Cook Early Childcare Center - FT
Wage: $16.00
Hours: FT status, starts at 8am M-F
Reports to: Development Center Director Revision Date: 05/22/2025
Probation: Subject to a 12-month introductory (probationary) period
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Missoula Y is seeking a team oriented, dependable and compassionate person who likes to engage and have fun with children aged 6 weeks to 6 years in a quality care learning environment. The Early Childcare Center Cook is responsible for the planning, preparing and serving of healthy child care meals, breakfast, lunch and snacks for infants and young children in accordance with safe food handling and preparation guidelines. Meals must be created in accordance with Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards. The Cook is responsible for maintaining food inventories, abiding by any child's known food allergies or food restrictions, and maintaining a clean kitchen and food prep environment in accordance with all health code guidelines. Must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization. Works with limited supervision.
FT: the cook responsibilities are full-time with hours starting at 8am M-F. Fulltime position involves child care, filling in for staff breaks and helping the teachers as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Preparing breakfast, lunch and two snacks daily
Maintain the food inventory in accordance with menus, including item check in and food storage
Abide by any pre-determined food allergies and food restrictions of children
Create healthy meals in according to HEPA guidelines
Maintain a clean kitchen and food prep environment and meet or exceed all health code guidelines
Have a working knowledge of safe food handling and preparation guidelines
Report supply needs and/or equipment damage or malfunctions to supervisor immediately
Be on time for your daily schedule, dressed in proper attire
Learn the names of parents and children in the center
Give sufficient notice for absences; find an approved substitute to cover your shifts
Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with other staff members, Y departments, volunteers, members and the general public
Work within the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
Know and and enforce Child Care rules, policies, and State of Montana licensing regulations with parents, participants, and other staff
Complete required child sexual abuse prevention training, comply with legal and ethical obligation as a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse and cooperate fully with any investigation of such abuse
Maintain positive child guidance at all times
Ensure program safety and manage risk appropriately
Interpret and enforce all safety and health regulations
Respond quicky and appropriately to emergency situations
Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work enthusiastically within a fast changing environment with constantly changing priorities
Exercise sound judgment and handle conflicts in a timely and professional manner
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education/Certification
- Required - Kitchen experience and familiarity with safe food preparation and health code rules
- Required High school diploma or equivalent
- Required - Must have current CPR or obtain within first 30 days of employment
Experience
- Preferred - experience in child care or working with children
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Must be able to communicate clearly to all children, parents, members and company personnel
Ability to attend all trainings and meetings as required even if scheduled outside normal working or regular scheduled hours.
Present a clean, well-groomed appearance
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods of time.
Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Occasionally must be able to lift and carry up to 55 pounds
Frequently may require bending, leaning, kneeling and walking
Salary Description
$16.00 per hr
