Job Description

Schedule is 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. This position will be required to work holidays if it falls on regularly scheduled work days. Schedule may need to be flexible due to maintaining the efficiency of governmental operations.

Do you enjoy helping others and want to make a significant impact in what you do? If yes, look no further. Community Based Corrections District 5 is seeking a highly motivated, skilled Cook 2 to join our team at the Fort Des Moines Residential Correctional Facility.

What You'll Do

As a Cook 2, you will:
  • Prepare a variety of food items for meals at two residential facilities, producing approximately 1,000 meals per day using commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Instruct and supervise clients assigned to kitchen duties, providing training on food safety, sanitation practices, and safe equipment use while modeling pro-social work habits.
  • Enforce hygiene and sanitation standards, monitoring residents for compliance and addressing behavioral or procedural issues through coaching or disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas and equipment, following Health Department guidelines to prevent foodborne illness.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to two years of full-time work in quantity food production in a commercial, military, hospital or institutional setting;

OR

successful completion of a military, vocational or community college program in commercial cooking and one year of qualifying experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time experience as a Cook 1.
