Position: Controls Technician with PLC programming

Location: Topeka, Kansas

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 (Based on experience)

Job Summary

This role ensures smooth production operations by troubleshooting and improving control systems and electrical components.


Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix & GuardLogix), HMIs (Wonderware, PanelView)
  • Work with plant floor electrical, control, and pneumatic systems including:
  • Vision systems, robots, valves, motors, loop controllers, solenoids
  • Flex IO/Point IO, instrumentation (flow meters, sensors, detectors)
  • Act as a technical resource for maintenance and operations teams
  • Train personnel on electrical and controls systems
  • Document hardware/software changes, backup control systems
  • Ensure compliance with Hill's Safety Policy and NEC standards

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of plant technical experience, or 3+ years with a 2-year technical degree
  • Strong skills in ladder logic programming (including AOI blocks and sequencer logic)
  • Proficient in reading electrical schematics
  • Knowledge of 3-phase 480V, 120V, and 24V AC/DC control circuits
  • Willingness to work different shifts and weekends as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Wonderware/AVEVA System Platform experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL databases
  • Cisco network architecture (LAN) basics
  • Ability to create or modify CAD drawings
