A controls software engineering role is currently available in Indianapolis, Indiana. To be considered for this role, you will have a bachelor"s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similarly related Engineering plus more than 3 years of experience as a software engineer.


The selected individual has the opportunity to participate in the full life cycle development of flight critical embedded software for airborne vehicles (fixed wing, rotary wing, space and/or unmanned systems). In each of these markets customer expect and demand the delivery of high-quality work products throughout the life cycle to achieve regulatory approval using structured and regulatory approval driven processes.


The platforms we support are the 'flagships' for the future of airborne platforms. The embedded software engineer works with a multi-faceted team that executes the full life cycle software developments - requirements development, requirements management, design, code, test, integration and validation and verification related activities.


Job duties:

Design and development of embedded software-centric solutions ranging from low level software to application-based software development

Collaborate with other teams and customers to develop control software requirements, design, code, test, validation and verification work products for safety critical applications per DO-178C compliance objectives

Requirements development, management, allocations, linking and traceability related activities

Faithfully execute per the project plans, process guidance, best practices and methods, including a DO-178 compliant process for code development

Develop and maintain design artifact creation throughout the life cycle

Resolve complex problems through the application of technical experience and knowledge

Develop and communicate complex technical ideas and information in a concise and logical way


Required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computing Engineering, or similarly related Engineering, plus more than 3 years of experience as a software engineer.

Needs to be familiar with Model-based software design using Simulink

Requirements management using process-driven databases (such as DOORs)

More than 2 years" experience developing model-based systems with digital engineering toolsets (MATLAB, Simulink and/or similar) throughout the software life cycle

More than 2 years" experience with Python and/or C/C

Must be able to co-locate with the customer in their facility, typically a hybrid model. The rest of the time is spent in Belcan facilities.

Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and contribute to high-performing customer work teams.

Due to the nature of the work performed, U.S. Citizenship is REQUIRED.


Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

More than 5 years" experience in development of airborne embedded software, special preference for control of gas turbine engines

Experience with military qualification and/or FAA certification of airborne systems, along with gas turbine engine, propulsion, or electrical control system experience

Familiarity with controls software design and / or digital logic design experience

Experience with Atlassian tools is preferred

Experience with integration testing, component testing and associated frameworks such as Jenkins, Rapita or Robot

Experience leading small teams for development of safety critical mission software development

Self-starter and ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced development environment, primarily using agile methodologies and best practices

Preference will be given to systems engineers who enjoy a software centric role and demonstrate a passion for digital engineering principles

Familiarity with military qualification and/or FAA certification related processes, methods and procedures, particularly DO-178C and ARP-4754

Experience in the development of safety-critical embedded software per DO-178C or similar mil standards


We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $80k to $115k. Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
