About the Role


As a member of the engineering department, this Controls Hardware Designer will be 1 of 6 (mechanical & controls) team members assisting on projects for various marketed customers. Responsibilities for this role begin in the early stages of a project to include quoting and engagement of customers on specifications, to assisting installation technicians as needed for completion. This position will sit onsite at the AMC location in Davisburg and will require 10% travel to customer sites; most travel expectations are in the beginning stages of a project. Our role will report directly to AMC's Engineering Manager.


Tasks & Responsibilities


  • Produce complete design package including detailed schematics, cable diagrams, Bill of Materials, and safety circuits that meet the design requirements.
  • Specify all electrical and controls-related hardware and software and produce requisition forms for material purchases.
  • Research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components.
  • Collaboration with other departmental professionals including engineering, operations, sales etc.
  • Design systems to integrate third party equipment and electronic components into electrical design package.
  • Perform data extraction and entry into systems for material requisitions.
  • Participate or lead in internal and customer design reviews when needed.
  • Collaborate and problem-solve with manufacturing trades for piping and wiring.
  • Complete accurate controls documentation, drawings, and Bill of Material for final customer documentation.
  • Communicate ideas and information both verbally and in written form.
  • Other duties may be expected to support controls department functions.

Knowledge


  • Design & documentation of machine electrical schematics using AutoCAD and SolidWorks Electrical
  • Design machine control hardware with primarily Allen Bradley and Siemens components.
  • Exposure to machine control software for both Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs.
  • Understanding of PLC machine control (hardware and software) together with an ability to achieve schedule, budget, and quality objectives.

What You Need to Be Successful


  • Associate degree in electrical or electronic engineering.
  • 3+ years 'of experience in systems and controls development, as well as integration of factory automation equipment; understanding of PLC's, robotics, control systems and machine operation is required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
