Controller - Real Estate Development Redmond, WA Join a leading commercial real estate acquisitions and development company in the Pacific Northwest. Our client, renowned for their industry reputation and diverse portfolio, is looking for a Controller to join their team. This role involves overseeing financial accounting and reporting, managing the accounting team, and collaborating with the Executive Team to ensure accurate financial insights and performance analysis. The ideal candidate is comfortable being hands-on, with strong experience in real estate development or construction accounting and an understanding of cost codes, cost accounting, and contracts.
Controller Responsibilities: - Take full responsibility for the company's financial accounting and portfolio management.
- Boost financial returns by creating, implementing, and documenting accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
- Ensure all financial reports are completed accurately and on time, optimizing reporting systems for efficiency.
- Deliver data-driven financial insights to the Executive Team to support strategic decisions.
- Manage all accounting functions (AP, AR, general ledger, etc.) and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly statements and profit analyses.
- Strengthen internal controls and oversee federal tax preparation annually.
- Provide regular financial updates to the Executive Team to guide their decisions.
- Collaborate across departments for smooth financial management, including handling construction draws and equity funding.
- Work closely with property and asset managers to ensure accurate accounting across divisions.
- Lead and develop the accounting team, providing training and mentorship for new hires.
- Continuously seek process improvements to reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency, ensuring scalability as the portfolio grows.
Controller Qualifications: - At least 7 years of progressive experience in accounting with at least 4 years of experience in construction or real estate development.
- Management/leadership experience is a plus.
- Should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or strong equivalent experience. Having a CPA or plans to attain one is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, clear communication, critical thinking, and a balance of skepticism and decisiveness.
- Must have a "no job is too small" attitude and be hands-on with accounting tasks as needed as well as an ability to manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
