Our food manufacturing client is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead their accounting and reporting operations. This is a great opportunity for a current Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager looking to step up into a Controller role and take ownership of all aspects of accounting in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will be exceptionally strong in the fundamentals-debits and credits, GAAP knowledge, journal entries, reconciliations-and thrive in a role that's deep in the details. This person will be the go-to for all transaction-level accounting and month-end close processes, and will work closely with the CFO on financial strategy and reporting.
Location: On-site- Wakefield, VA
Requires occasional travel to other operating sites throughout Virginia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including preparing and entering journal entries, managing reconciliations, and overseeing general ledger activity.
- Own the monthly close process with an emphasis on speed and accuracy-bringing the books to close on a faster-than-standard timeline.
- Maintain and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles in compliance with GAAP.
- Assist with internal and external financial reporting and ensure timely, complete, and accurate reporting packages.
- Support the CFO on acquisition-related accounting and integration efforts; a working knowledge of M&A accounting is helpful but not required.
- Work with cross-functional teams to modernize and streamline accounting systems and processes, with a strong curiosity and aptitude for systems integration.
- Provide guidance and leadership to accounting staff, as needed.
- Support inventory valuation, cost accounting, and bill of materials tracking.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong foundation in GAAP, journal entries, and general ledger work.
- Proven experience closing the books faster than a traditional monthly cycle.
- Experience in industry accounting.
- Manufacturing industry experience preferred, including familiarity with standard costing, bill of materials, and inventory valuation.
- Demonstrated interest and aptitude in learning new systems; comfort navigating outdated systems and contributing to future integrations.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Self-starter with excellent attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
