Shift: Mon to Fri Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 AM - 05:00 PM)
Job Description:
The Controller is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the accounting operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards while maintaining the integrity of financial reporting. The Controller oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, including personnel, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations. The Controller is responsible for the hospital's budget and all applications flowing into it, preparing financial statements, monitoring general ledger, and preparing audit and cost reports.
Educational :
Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration
Preferred: MBA or MSA or equivalent
Experience:
Required: Three (3) years of controller experience in a healthcare accounting setting with a minimum of five (5) years' experience with leading a group of 5 or more
Preferred: Five+ (5+) years controller experience
Special Skills and Abilities
Required: Communication and relationship skills necessary to collaborate with board members, administration, management, and hospital personnel. Excellent management and supervisory skills, written and verbal communication, and organizational and time management skills. Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets, email, calendars, and internet applications in a windows environment with Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

Develops, monitors and maintains departmental goals and objectives in connection with the organization's mission, strategic plan, and other identified needs (EF)
Actively participates in the compilation of the annual operating and capital budgets, including statistical forecasts.
Actively engages stakeholders in understanding and adhering to accounting policies and procedures.
Participates in the identification and pursuit of revenue enhancement and expense reduction opportunities.
Effectively develops, manages and monitors all aspects of the accounting department. (EF)
Manages and monitors resources (equipment, supplies, space, etc.) necessary to carry out the functions of the department.
Assumes ultimate responsibility for the recruitment, hiring, development, evaluation, performance management and retention of qualified staff.
Assumes ultimate responsibility for all aspects of financial reporting. (EF)
Produces, analyzes, and presents periodic financial reports and statements to key stakeholders (i.e. CFO and Board of Managers) including but not limited to financial statements, monthly operating reports, contractual adjustment calculations, variance analysis, and cost analysis.
Approves journal entries prepared by the accounting manager and ensures monthly close process is timely and deadlines are met.
Ensures all cost reports for CMC, Home Health, and Nursing Home partners are complete, accurate and timely filed.
Provides oversite and review of financial audit workpapers, cost report schedules and draft audited financial statements.
Provides review and approval, under the guidance of company policies, of certain purchases, check requests, invoices without a purchase order, patient refunds, IRS form 1099's.
Manages relationships and works with external auditors to analyze adjustment and coordinate finding with Senior Auditors, and other reimbursement consultants on projects such as DSH/UC, amending cost reports, etc.
Treasury management functions. (EF)
Monitors bank balances to ensure necessary funds for payroll and accounts payable and requests transfers as necessary.
Responsible for the Intergovernmental Transfers (IGT) for all Directed Payment Programs.
Works with County Treasurer and Auditor on various projects including, but not limited to, Certificates of Obligation, bank contracts, investment opportunities and other funding projects (ARPA etc.).
Approves medical plan claims, as provided by TPA, weekly and monitors unusual items. Participates in quarterly meeting with TPA and Human Resources to review compliance with plan and address outstanding issues.
Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with regulatory agency guidelines, federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to field of ownership.
Maintains professional growth and development through attendance at seminars and workshops, participate in professional affiliations, and reviewing applicable, current literature.
Participates in hospital committees, revenue cycle meetings, board meetings, hospital-sponsored programs and activities, and civic community activities, as requested.
