A well-established, privately held building materials distributor near Oak Park, Illinois, is looking for a talented Controller to join their growing team. With approximately 130 employees and a strong reputation in the industry, this organization is preparing for a leadership transition as their long-standing CFO plans for retirement at the end of the year. The incoming Controller will benefit from hands-on mentorship and training period to ensure a seamless handoff. Job Details

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger management, month-end close, and financial reporting
• Prepare financial statements and internal reports for leadership review
• Manage banking relationships and cash flow
• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
• Drive process improvements and optimize internal controls
• Collaborate closely with operations and leadership teams to support business initiatives
• Work hands-on with the outgoing CFO for training and transition support
• Ensure accounting software (DMSI, Agility ERP) is utilized effectively for reporting needs
• Partner with HR and leadership regarding financial aspects of employee management and staffing updates
• Support occasional hybrid work options, with flexibility based on business needs

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles
• Prior experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller strongly preferred
• Strong general ledger and financial reporting skills
• Familiarity with ERP systems like Netsuite, SAP, or similar (DMSi Agility is a plus but not required)
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work hands-on and collaborate across departments
• Comfortable working on-site at the Oak Park, Illinois office, with the possibility of limited hybrid flexibility
• Master's Degree and a CPA is a plus, but not required
