Job Details

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead and scale our accounting operations. This role is ideal for an autonomous thinker who has built accounting functions from the ground up, thrives on developing people, and brings a builder's mindset to systems, processes, and automation. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, including fluency in GAAP and ASC 842 (Lease Accounting), and experience navigating the complexities of a high-growth, multi-entity organization-ideally in construction or field services.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and continuously enhance the accounting function, including general ledger, month-end close, revenue recognition, lease accounting, and financial reporting.

Build and optimize scalable accounting processes and controls to support rapid growth, including the automation of manual workflows.

Own and implement compliance with ASC 842, ensuring accurate lease accounting and reporting.

Provide leadership, coaching, and development to a growing team of accountants and AP/AR professionals.

Drive timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting.

Partner with FP&A and business leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.

Oversee technical accounting research and implement best practices in line with GAAP and company policies.

Collaborate with IT and finance operations to improve systems integrations and accounting technology stack.

Support annual audit, tax, and compliance activities with external partners.

Contribute to a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

CPA is required

8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Experience in residential construction, home services, or similar field-based multi-location businesses preferred.

Proven success in scaling accounting operations in a high-growth environment.

Deep knowledge of GAAP, with demonstrated experience implementing and managing ASC 842 compliance.

Expertise in process design, automation, and systems implementation (e.g., Sage Intacct, construction management software, AP/AR automation platforms).

Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.

Strong emotional intelligence, communication skills, and a passion for developing talent.

Ability to work independently, make decisions in ambiguous situations, and drive results with urgency and precision.
