Controller - Cockeysville, MD
About the Company and Controller Opportunity:
- CFS is partnering with a small, dynamic construction client in Cockeysville, MD to find a highly organized, detail-oriented, hands on Controller to manage the full accounting cycle, including certified payroll, AP, AR, billing, and financial reporting. The Controller will also support year-end processes and tax preparation in collaboration with the external accounting firm.
- The Controller will be the ONLY person in accounting and will work alongside a very small team of non accountants
- Position will ideally begin as soon as possible for the selected candidate and has the potential to go long term
- This role will start on a contractual basis. For the right fit, this position could become permanent.
- Schedule: This role is fully on site in Cockeysville, MD.
- Hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday
- Reports to the Owner
- Salary: $110,000-130,000 depending on industry experience
Job Duties for the Controller:
- Oversee and process certified payroll for state and federal projects
- Manage and process standard payroll
- Supervise accounts payable and receivable processes
- Ensure accurate billing and assist with month-end close
- Support year-end financial reporting and tax preparation alongside outside accounting firm
- Assist with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Manage general office accounting tasks and ensure the smooth operation of financial processes
- Handle business license renewals and other regulatory or compliance matters as needed
Qualifications for the Controller: - 5+ years accounting experience required
- Accounting experience in the construction industry highly preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of AIA billing and/or Certified Payroll a plus
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related a plus, but not required
- Experience using Sage 50 a plus, but not required
- Basic Excel skills required
- Must be able to pass a background check
