Job Details
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the firm's financial stability, regulatory compliance, and overall financial performance. This position collaborates closely with the President and Senior Leadership Team to oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and statements to assess the firm's financial health and coordinate with external auditors.
Budget Management: Assist the CFO in developing and managing the budget process, including preparing operating budgets and monitoring variances.
Cost Efficiency & Financial Performance: Analyze financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve efficiency.
Accounting Operations Oversight: Manage daily accounting functions, including accounts receivable/payable, invoicing, expense reports, payroll, month-end/year-end close, and Form-5500 completion.
Accounts Receivable Management: Oversee the collection of delinquent accounts to maintain cash flow and minimize financial risk.
Team Leadership: Supervise and support accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial operations.
Regulatory Compliance & Tax Planning: Oversee tax planning, regulatory reporting, and compliance with GAAP and other financial regulations.
Financial Strategy & Advisory: Support the CFO in guiding strategic financial decisions, identifying financial opportunities, and fostering relationships with banking partners.
Data & Performance Analysis: Maintain a firm-wide financial database, tracking project and client profitability trends.
Audit Coordination: Lead and coordinate audit processes to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration required; MBA, CPA, or Certified Controller designation preferred.
10+ years of experience as a Controller or similar role, ideally within the AEC or EPC industry, with a preference for Civil/Structural Engineering experience.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Proficiency in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Advanced knowledge of Deltek (VantagePoint or similar CRM systems).
Expertise in technical accounting and cost analysis.
High integrity and ethical decision-making.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts clearly to all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet deadlines during peak financial periods.
