The Opportunity: We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer to bring your technological and engineering expertise to our team. In this role, you will implement new process control technologies, resolve existing system issues, and optimize control systems to ensure safe, environmentally sound operations. Your contributions will directly impact production, cost efficiency, and product quality.

Your Impact at Westrock:
  • Design and configure modern process control systems for both new and existing processes.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and managers in capital project planning and implementation.
  • Engage in the short and long-term planning of system upgrades and migrations.
  • Coordinate control logic and system configuration development between Operations and control system suppliers.
  • Write training manuals and assist in training operators on control systems.
  • Generate procedures for Maintenance, Operations, and peers.
  • Work with Operations and Engineering to develop job scopes and functional specifications for vendors.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives focused on customer innovation, cost savings, and optimization.
  • Develop proactive solutions for short-term and long-term challenges.
  • Implement control system logic based on safety and operational requirements.
  • Assist Maintenance and Operations in identifying and resolving issues.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and mentor E/I technicians.
  • Direct consultants, contractors, and vendors during controls-related projects.
  • Participate in weekend and off-hour availability to support Process Control and IT mill needs, including startup support after shutdowns.
  • Promote safety by adhering to all mill safety rules and participating in safety programs.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and maintain system hardware.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You Need:
  • B.S. Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Paper Science Engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of industrial experience or relevant process control engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, control devices, and motor controls.
  • Preferred experience in process control within the paper industry.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for root cause evaluation and long-term solutions.
  • Familiarity with Honeywell TDC, Honeywell Experion, Valmet, Rockwell & Modicon DCS & PLC Systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including system deployment with VMWare.
  • Experience configuring Ethernet networks, switches, routers, and VLANs.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Communication Protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet IP.
  • Experience with control loop tuning and performance evaluation tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to handle projects independently while thriving in a team-oriented environment.
  • Able to drive large-scale control system projects from concept to commissioning.

Compensation: Compensation for this role ranges from $66,375 - $110,625 based on experience and role level. You will also be eligible for a Yearly Short-Term Incentive Program (STIP) Bonus.
