Our client is seeking Controls Engineers to join their team on a full-time bases. Travel is required
Responsibilities
- Support, repair, and upgrade installed systems at customer facilities
- Provide after-hours controls support of customer automation systems as required and maintain remote access credentials
- Provide onsite support of electrical / mechanical and controls installations
- Troubleshoot automation systems (electrical/mechanical) to minimize customer downtime
- Modify existing PLC and HMI software for customer automation systems on a project basis
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure project schedules allocate sufficient time for required tasks
- Complete pre-project preparation in a timely manner
- Commission equipment on-site with a strong focus on controls and a solid understanding of electrical/mechanical installations
- Assist with on-site leadership of the project team to ensure timely project progression
- Develop documentation and knowledge base articles as needed for projects
- Provide onsite team with guidance on standards for electrical wiring and labeling
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in a technical environment, with strong electrical/mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems using PLC software
- Ability to read and modify PLC code written in various languages
- Proficient in Siemens Step 7 Classic and TIA Portal, with knowledge of Ladder Logic, Statement List, and Function Block Diagram
- Industrial experience with electro-mechanical or automation systems
- Application knowledge of warehouse distribution systems (pallet or tote conveyor, storage and retrieval machines, monorail systems, etc.)
- Experience with AC Variable Frequency Drives and low voltage control systems
- Experience programming VFDs from scratch
- Knowledge of controls programming languages: Ladder, Statement List, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text
Desirable Requirements
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science
- Siemens or Allen Bradley Certifications
- Experience with Industrial Ethernet and modern field buses (PROFIBUS, ASi, DeviceNET, etc.)
- Experience with VFD OEMs such as SEW, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider, or Kuka
- Experience with structured text programming languages
- Familiarity with EPLAN or AutoCAD-E
- Experience with Demo3D or other industrial emulation software
- Strong knowledge of electrical/mechanical standards and best practices (e.g., avoiding running communication cables next to high voltage, proper e-stop operation, etc.)
