The responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer are to work with cross-functional teams in efforts relating to system requirements definition, system architecture definition, system modelling, and requirements and risk traceability.
Responsibilities:
- Work with external contractors and developers for effective communication of requirements
- Accountable to setup and participate in product development phases and design reviews
- Accountable for the system design input documentation and traceability matrix
- Leading and mentoring others within the multi-disciplinary team developing the company's revolutionary NGS platform for IVD applications
- Apply system engineering principles for developing cost-effective, reliable, and quality systems which satisfy product requirements
- Design execute and analyze appropriate experiments to assess requirements
- Define and negotiate design requirement trade-offs as needed
- Influence, lead and mentor others in the system integration, adoption and execution of Systems, Reliability, Risk, Usability and Requirements engineering
- Maintain extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art principles, theories and practices around all things Systems and Reliability engineering related activities
- Conduct and participate in design/project technical reviews
- Develop novel strategies with the aim of developing solutions to product development hurdles
- Create and maintain quality records to assess and improve chemistry, instruments, and consumables
- Effective management of required documentation in accordance with ISO 13485 certified quality management system in collaboration with the Quality team
- Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or closely related discipline or working equivalent. MS is preferred.
Qualifications include:
- Outstanding verbal, written, and documentation skills are required
- Ability to understand scripts written in Python
- Must be able to analyze system log files to drive root-cause analysis for observed failure modes
- Strong presentation and influencing skills
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills to work well with scientists and engineers having widely divergent backgrounds
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while juggling multiple tasks
- Maintains broad knowledge of principles and best practices in engineering and instrument functionality - fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, electrical, thermal, optics, injection molding, data analysis.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience for senior level consideration
- Experience with vendor evaluation and qualification
- Experience with Manufacturing process development, process transfer, process optimization, and process characterization
- IVD / Diagnostics experience is preferred
- Experience working with a Model based systems engineering tool is a plus.

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Systems Engineer role based in Carlsbad, California is: $133,000 to $147,500. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly.
