Contract Design Engineer - SolidWorks IR35 Status: Outside

Contract Term - 1 month potential for extension
Location - In Office in Norfolk
We're excited to be supporting a leading specialist in the design and fabrication of bespoke engineering solutions for industrial applications. Their expertise spans structural frameworks, walkways, platforms, and access systems, all tailored to meet client-specific requirements and industry standards.
They're seeking a Contract SolidWorks Design Engineer to support the engineering team with the timely delivery of detailed designs and production drawings for a range of fabricated structures, including industrial walkways and gantries.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
- Creating and modifying 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks for fabricated walkways, gantries, and heavy-duty support structures
- Producing detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for manufacturing purposes, including sub-assemblies and structural layouts
- Using existing PDM (Product Data Management) systems to manage CAD data, revisions, and drawing control
- Modelling from scratch or modifying existing models and designs to meet updated specifications or client needs
- Applying weldments and fabrication techniques within pre-configured SolidWorks environments
- Liaising with internal teams to ensure the integrity, functionality, and manufacturability of designs
- Supporting basic FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to assess frame deflection under load, ensuring structural compliance
- Collaborating with the wider team, including external fabrication partners, to ensure drawings are completed by August in time for November commissioning
Experiences required
- Proven experience using SolidWorks for 3D modelling and 2D drawing creation
- Demonstrated ability to model and document assemblies and sub-assemblies to a high standard
- Proficiency with SolidWorks weldments and fabrication tools, including detailing and accurate manufacturing drawings
- Strong background in designing walkways, gantries, platforms, access ladders, handrails, or similar fabricated steel structures
- Familiarity with SolidWorks FEA tools, with the ability to conduct basic load and deflection assessments
- Must supply own CAD-capable hardware
- Must hold an active SolidWorks license
