Position Summary:
Vassar College invites applications for a part-time Consulting Veterinarian to support its Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Animal Resources Program. The successful candidate will serve as a critical advisor on animal care and welfare, provide regulatory guidance, and participate in institutional oversight of laboratory animal use.

Responsibilities:

•  Provide remote consultation (phone, text, and email) seven days a week regarding animal care concerns.

•  Conduct periodic reviews of research protocols and SOPs and submit comments to the IACUC Chair or principal investigators.

•  Attend and participate in regularly scheduled IACUC meetings.

•  Conduct monthly in-person site visits (typically a few hours per visit) to consult with the Manager of the Animal Resources Program and address animal care facility issues.

•  Provide additional visits and support for Federal or State reporting as needed. Provide assistance for inspections held by external regulatory agencies.
Compensation Structure:

•  Monthly consulting fee: $800 (includes up to 4 hours on-site).

•  Additional hours beyond 4 during the monthly visit: $100/hour .

•  Additional visits beyond monthly: $300/visit .

•  Regulatory report assistance: $100/hour , billed in 30-minute increments.

•  Invoices submitted quarterly to the Dean of the Faculty Office.
Qualifications:

•  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD), board-eligibility or certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine (DACLAM) desired.

•  Current licensure to practice veterinary medicine in New York State.

•  Demonstrated knowledge of IACUC regulations, animal welfare laws, and research compliance.

•  Experience with academic research environments is preferred.

•  Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Requirements:
Throughout the term of this agreement, the Consulting Veterinarian must obtain and maintain in full force and effect occurrence-based general liability insurance coverage for the services rendered under the agreement. Vassar College must be named as an additional insured on all applicable policies.

•  All insurance policies must be primary to any policies carried by the contractor.

•  Policies must include a waiver of subrogation .

•  Certificates of insurance must be submitted to Vassar on or before the effective date of the agreement.
Terms of Appointment:

•  One-year contractual position, with an annual review and potential for renewal.

•  Either party may terminate the agreement with 30 days' written notice.

Insurance Requirements:
The contractor must procure, maintain, and provide proof of the following insurance coverage throughout the contract, using approved carriers, at their own expense. It is also the contractor's responsibility to ensure any subcontractors carry similar coverage. Vassar College must be named as an additional insured, with coverage designated as primary.

Coverage must include premises operations, products and completed operations, independent contractors protective, contractual liability, broad form property damage, and XCU (explosion, collapse, underground) coverage. The policy must not exclude employees.

C. Workers' Compensation Coverage
1. State: New York (Statutory)
2. Employer's Liability:
- Each accident: $100,000
- Disease/Policy Limit: $500,000

Fee Structure:

•   Monthly Administrative Services: Billed at $80.00 per hour, with an expected 4-5 hours per month.

•   Initial Year Additional Charge: An additional one-time fee of up to $3,000 for the development and construction of necessary infrastructure for protocol submission, review, and post-approval monitoring.

•   Insurance: Vassar College will reimburse the annual premium costs.
