Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint 2 permanent, full-time, Consultant Radiologists.

The directorate seeks candidates to provide General Radiology services mainly based at Yeovil District Hospital, including plain film reporting, screening, and cross-sectional imaging with CT, MRI, and Ultrasound.

The job plan is based on a 10 PA contract with 8.5 clinical PAs (including 1 PA for on-call) and 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities.

The working day runs from 0900 to 1700, divided into two 4-hour sessions. The schedule is flexible, with DCC varying between MDT cover, acute, and outpatient reporting sessions.

You will participate in the cross-sectional radiology out-of-hours service, currently on a 1 in 14 rota. There is a separate interventional on-call rota staffed by interventional radiologists.

Applicants must have MBBS and FRCR or equivalent, hold full GMC registration with a license to practice, and be on the Specialty Register.

Main duties of the job

The Yeovil Radiology department offers a wide range of imaging services, including CT, MRI, screening, ultrasound, plain film, and non-vascular intervention.

The weekday on-call involves reporting from 17:30 to 20:00, managed by the on-call cross-sectional radiologist, covering inpatient CT, urgent ultrasound, and MRI scans. After 20:00 on weekdays and 17:00 at weekends, outsourcing covers overnight CT/MRI scans, but the radiologist remains available for IT issues or major incidents.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

The successful candidate will provide general radiological services, with scope for subspecialty interests. There is no vascular intervention at YDH.

The appointee will participate in regular audits and clinical governance meetings, including discrepancy reviews.

If you will not have obtained your CCT by the required date, contact the department to discuss future prospects.

The post is full-time (10 PAs) with one PA for on-call work. The on-call rota is 1 in 12, with prospective coverage.

Overnight CT scans are reported by an outsourcing company; approval to use this service is not required from the radiologist.

Part-time work will be considered.

The appointee will have access to an office with a PC, internet, high-resolution PACS workstation, voice dictation, and voice recognition, plus a full home workstation.

Secretarial support is shared among consultants.

Consultants are responsible for fulfilling duties in their job plan, which will be periodically reviewed, including emergency cover and travel between sites.

External duties require prior approval. Consultants supervise training, participate in teaching, and are responsible for trainee assessments and appraisals.
