Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide corneal clinical expertise, with independent management of patients
  • To work flexibly and closely with the existing Corneal Consultants in developing the corneal service in Lothian, to ensure good clinical care, aligning with NHS Lothian Strategic Aims, as well as changing service needs in the department.
  • Work with colleagues in the acute ophthalmology service to improve the management of acute corneal patients, with education and training of colleagues, as well as developing clinical pathways and guidelines.

Out of Hours Commitments:

  • Consultant On-call rota: 1 in 14 with prospective cover
  • Availability Supplement: 3%

Provide high quality care to patients:

  • Maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice
  • Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post
  • Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views
