General: Our Client is seeking a detail-oriented Controller with direct experience working for a General Contractor (G.C.). This is a critical role requiring a deep understanding of corporate accounting functions in the construction environment, with a focus on job cost accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all corporate accounting operations including job cost tracking, WIP schedules, backlog analysis, and financial reporting
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Work closely with project managers and executive leadership to provide real-time financial insights
- Ensure accounting systems and controls are efficient and compliant
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience working with a General Contractor (G.C.) this is non-negotiable. NOT sub-contractors or with developers. Also not looking for Heavy civil, paving and electrical work.
- Must have construction experience (7-10 years)
- Expertise in job cost accounting, WIPS (Work-in-Progress), backlog, and other key construction financial metrics
- Strong understanding of GAAP and construction-specific accounting standards
- Ability to lead and manage an accounting team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Procore and Sage integration is a major plus
- CPA designation is beneficial but not required
- Strong communication and analytical skills
