The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:

Location: Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA
  • Understanding of programming and configuring COMSEC equipment (KG, KIV, KY, PYQ, and KIK).
  • Knowledge of COMSEC keys to include types, applications, and characteristics
  • Familiarity with data products used with COMSEC and networking
  • Knowledge of communications theory
  • Capable of building detailed network diagrams
  • Familiarity with Networking (layer 3 devices).
  • Knowledge of COMSEC key material use/handling policies for the Department of Defense (DOD).
  • Knowledge of basic configuration of Inline Network Encryptors (INEs).
The requirements for the COMSEC Network Engineer include:

  1. Plan, design, and manage Controlled Cryptographic Item (CCI) planning software
  2. Troubleshoot COMSEC issues in support of test and engineering events (estimate 1-2 times per month).
  3. Configure layer 3 devices for Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC) and tunneling
  4. Configure routing protocols, such as Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), etc.
  5. Operate traffic generator and network analyzers (estimate at least once per month).
  6. Develop and use tools in scripting environments, such as IXIA, MATLAB, LABVIEW, Python, and PowerShell to support data collection and reduction, model and algorithm design, collection and analysis automation, and event logging
  7. Perform network throughput performance tests from Layer 1 (Physical Layer) to Layer 4 (Transport Layer) for radio network using IXIA, Spirent, Internet Performance (IPerf) and T-1 Bit Error Rate Detector (T-BERD) test tools monthly (estimate at least once per month).
  8. Lift and move radio equipment (approximately 40 lbs.) as needed
