CTE Teacher - Computer Science

About The Program
The App Academy is a four-year computer science pathway at Pasadena High School. As part of a diverse public high school, we believe that all students should have the opportunity to learn computer science and develop their logical and creative thinking skills. Over the course of their four years in App Academy, our students learn how to create interactive websites, make 2D games, analyze and visualize real-world data, and build full-stack web applications. App Academy is a Linked Learning Academy, CTE teachers are expected to work closely with core academic teachers to integrate computer science standards with common core.
About the Position
App Academy is looking for someone with a deep knowledge of CS fundamentals and a passion for education to join our teaching team. We love teaching for App Academy because we care deeply about its mission: broadening participation in computer science and instilling a love of creative problem solving in our students. This is a full time teaching position.
As an App Academy teacher, you will:
- Implement App Academy curriculum at the 9th through 12th grade levels, primarily using the JavaScript or Python programming languages
- Support students with diverse backgrounds and needs, including English language learners and students with disabilities
Required Qualifications
- Experience required to obtain a CTE Teaching Credential in Information and Communication Technologies (if you don't already have an active credential):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 1000+ hours paid or unpaid work experience in programming/software engineering, OR 3+ years paid or unpaid work experience in programming/software engineering
- Solid foundational computer science knowledge and experience with at least one programming language
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and collaborative: you enjoy learning new things and are always looking for ways to improve your work. You do your best work as part of a team, and love to brainstorm solutions with teammates.
- A passion for the intersection between education and technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with development using either JavaScript or Python
- Prior experience in data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence
- Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring K-12 students
