Hastings Insurance is hiring a Complex Commercial Claims Specialist to join our elite Complex (Litigated) Claims Unit. If you're an experienced commercial casualty adjuster with a strong grasp of construction defect and litigated claims, this is your opportunity to make a deep impact with a regional insurer known for its integrity, agility, and support.

You'll manage a portfolio of high-severity commercial liability cases-including litigated and construction defect exposures-working closely with defense counsel, vendors, and internal teams to deliver timely and fair outcomes. This is a critical role where technical skill meets strategic influence.

Where You'll Work:
We strongly prefer candidates based in Southeast Michigan (Metro Detroit) or Northern Ohio (Toledo area) due to regional claim activity and court familiarity.
However, we are open to strong candidates in or near Hastings or Grand Rapids, MI, depending on qualifications.
This role follows standard business hours but may occasionally require flexibility due to litigation schedules.
What You'll Do:
Independently manage a caseload of complex, often litigated, commercial and construction defect claims
Conduct thorough investigations, evaluate coverage and liability, and drive timely resolution
Direct and collaborate with defense counsel and experts
Set and monitor reserves and negotiate settlements within authority levels
Identify and pursue subrogation and salvage opportunities
Maintain detailed documentation in the claims system of record
Act as a subject matter resource for peers and junior adjusters
Support department initiatives and participate in project work as needed
What You'll Bring:
5+ years of claims experience required (10+ preferred), with proven success in:
Commercial General Liability
Construction Defect Claims
Litigated Case Management
Bachelor's degree or active pursuit of insurance designation (CPCU, AIC, etc.) preferred
Excellent verbal/written communication and negotiation skills
Critical thinking, time management, and strong customer service instincts
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claims management systems
Resident or able to travel as needed within MI/OH
