Compensation & Benefits Specialist
Our client, a local nonprofit, is seeking an experienced Compensation and Benefits Specialist to join their team in a temp-to-hire basis. This individual will support the Total Rewards function with a focus on compensation structure, benefit administration, and union-related matters. Type: Contract-to-Hire
Duration of Contract: 3 - 6 months / potential to convert to FTE based on performance and organizational alignment
Pay: $38.00 - 46.00 hourly, DOE
Work Model: Hybrid - 3-days onsite - Portland, Oregon
Responsibilities of the Compensation & Benefits Specialist:
Administer and maintain compensation programs, ensuring alignment with internal policies and market competitiveness.
Conduct job evaluations and salary benchmarking using various compensation tools.
Manage benefits administration, including open enrollment, broker/vendor coordination, and employee support.
Oversee retirement plan administration (403(b) and 401(k and maintain compliance with plan requirements.
Support union-related compensation and benefits processes, including interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
Collaborate on high-impact projects such as compensation structure refreshes and benefits renewals.
Provide data analysis, reporting, and insights to support Total Rewards strategies.
Maintain accurate employee data in HRIS; experience with UKG Ready is a plus.
Assist with general HR support as needed within the Total Rewards team.
Qualifications of the Compensation & Benefits Specialist:
3+ years of experience in both compensation and benefits administration.
Proven experience working in a unionized environment.
Knowledge of Kaiser medical benefits and retirement plan compliance.
Familiarity with compensation benchmarking tools and HRIS systems (UKG Ready preferred).
Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Multilingual skills preferred.
Ability to work in a hybrid environment, with 3 days/week in-office presence.
