United Way is seeking a Communications Manager who is passionate about our work and excited to spread the word to mobilize our neighbors. This position requires an excellent writer with an eye for design who can manage a wide variety of projects. You will lead graphic design, manage social media and email marketing, oversee our website, and create a variety of written content. You'll also attend community and volunteer events and interview local residents impacted by United Way's work. You will be a member of our Marketing & Engagement team, who work across departments to share the story of United Way and bring new people into our organization through communications, community engagement, and our volunteer program.

We're looking for a communications professional whose genuine passion inspires others to get involved as donors, volunteers, and advocates.
- You excel at visual and written storytelling. Do you love to find the emotional center to a great story? Are you adept at communicating information and emotion through images and graphics? Stories are central to our communications strategy. We need someone who can connect with audiences and make big issues relatable on a human scale.
- You have a marketing mind for matching the right message to the right audience. Do you know the ins and outs of all the major social platforms? Can you update and edit a website, track and analyze data, and stay in the loop on emerging trends? Do you love creating engaging content? We're looking for someone who can plan and execute multi-platform campaigns with tailored content to reach target audiences.
- You're a team player. The Communications Manager works closely with every department at United Way. As part of the four-person Marketing & Engagement department, you will attend weekly team meetings and will report to the Senior Director of Marketing & Engagement. You'll collaborate with our fundraising team to dream up new ways to reach local businesses and individuals looking to give back to the community.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - 3-5 years of professional experience in marketing/communications.
- Strong storyteller with excellent writing skills.
- Experience in graphic design, proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Experience in email marketing and managing an email client, especially MailChimp, including campaign creation, audience segmentation, and performance tracking.
- Experience managing a website, including creating new pages through a builder tool (coding knowledge is not needed).
- Experience creating and managing content across professional social media platforms.
- Experience with marketing analytics, including reporting and strategy adjustments for social media, website (Google Analytics), email, and paid advertising.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently and find solutions to challenges.
- A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- An active team player who fosters collaboration and contributes to a positive staff culture.
- Ability to work with diverse staff and volunteers.
- Proficient with MS Office365 and demonstrated comfort in learning new software/online tools as needed.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the values and mission of United Way of Greater New Haven.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: - Photography and videography experience.
- Experience using a CRM database such as Salesforce or similar platforms.
- Experience drafting press releases and media alerts, organizing press events, and managing relationships with local press.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, or temperature.
- Hybrid position, expected to work 3 days/week in our New Haven office.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Extended viewing of computer monitor.
- Local travel is required; occasional statewide and out-of-state travel may be required.
SALARY RANGE: $57,000 to $61,000 annual salary plus competitive benefits package
