Washington Trust is seeking a strategic and dynamic communications professional to join our Marketing team to expand our Public Relations and Investor Relations efforts.

We are looking for a strong communicator with a passion for storytelling, to enhance and execute our corporate narrative strategy, to generate interest locally and within the IR community.

This position is hybrid with an anticipated 2-3 days on site in Westerly, RI per week.

Key Responsibilities:

Communications & Public Relations
  • Develop and execute strategic internal and external communications plans to enhance the company's brand visibility and build confidence among employees, customers, the community, and investors.
  • Manage all public relations activities, including media relations, outreach, inquiries, and contact lists.
  • Craft compelling press releases for media and SEO, pitch stories, coordinate media appearances, and manage crisis communications plans.
  • Contribute to the content calendar, generating engaging narratives through blogs, company storytelling, employee profiles, and more.
  • Monitor public sentiment, social media, and industry trends to identify storytelling opportunities.
Investor Relations
  • Research and manage investor contacts; coordinate and manage meetings and act as Washington Trust's liaison with investment banking firms at conferences and roadshows.
  • Develop relationships with investor analyst firms, coordinate outreach opportunities, field inquiries, and report to executive management.
  • Create and implement proactive shareholder outreach plans.
  • Develop content for earnings calls, annual reports, presentation decks, press releases, and the investor relations website.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor positioning, and analyst sentiment to provide strategic insights and shape messaging for the investor audience.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Finance, Business, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications and investor relations, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of the New England media market.
  • Ability to disseminate and communicate financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Superior written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with financial teams and clearly communicate with executive management.
  • Experience managing relationships with media, investors, analysts, and senior executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle crisis communications and sensitive financial disclosures with professionalism and discretion.
