Job Title: Collaborative Pianist

Summary

To provide musical accompaniment for students and faculty. To assist the classroom teacher in maintaining a well organized, smooth functioning classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Studies and rehearses music to learn and interpret scores.
  • Play from memory or by following a score.
  • May transpose music to play in alternate keys.
  • Accompany school choirs.
  • Accompany solo and ensemble events for the district music festival.
  • Accompany solo and ensemble events for the state music festival.
  • Organize and distribute choir performance attire.
  • Assist with any logistical and administrative duties as assigned by the choir director
  • Assist students auditioning for musicals.
  • Assists with supervision of students in the building as directed by the administrator, such as emergency drills, assemblies, recess, field trips, etc.
  • Provide accompaniment for any school musicals.
  • Coaches piano students during piano class if applicable.
  • Serves as the primary source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in choir.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certificated staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Many of the above duties are performed during school hours. Duties that are outside school hours include:
  • All school musical responsibilities.
  • Accompanying students at the district and state music festivals.
  • Accompanying students for the all-district and all-state auditions.
  • Piano recital for all students enrolled in the piano class if applicable.
  • Accompany all choirs at all scheduled performances.

Supervisory Duties

Supervises students both in the classroom and in the halls.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certificates

High School diploma (or equivalent) is required. Experience is preferred. The individual should possess strong classical piano technique, a ready grasp of classical repertoire, excellent musicianship, and enjoy the collaborative process. Sight-reading is helpful.

Skills and Abilities

Language

Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional documents, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence.

Computation

The individual must have the ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.

Reasoning

Must have the ability to define problems, prioritize workload, resolve conflicting demands and schedules, and exercise objective and prudent judgment.

Technology

The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet use.

Additional Skills and Abilities

This individual must have piano accompaniment skills, the ability to read and interpret musical terms in English, German, Italian, and French, as well as musical sight-reading skills. Also, must have a working knowledge of solo, ensemble, and standard repertoire. The employee must have the ability to follow verbal instructions and written plans of certificated staff members, seeking clarification as needed; must maintain a high level of competence and integrity at all times; must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding students and families when required by law, policy, or a particular situation

The individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; must be able to move around the classroom; must be able to read handwritten and printed materials.

Attendance

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential job function of this position. While most of the duties of this position are performed during the normal school day, the individual must be available for occasional after hours work.

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading buses, recess duty, and supervise safety drills.

Terms of Employment

180 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board
