Assistant Coach

Job Description

Position Open Until Filled - First Screening Date: 3/28/2025

Proposed Start Date: August 20, 2025

Days/Hours: 58 Days/ Monday - Friday 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Note - Must have knowledge of Football and coaching experience is preferred.

Year-Round:
  • Assist the Head Coach in program development.
  • Provide the athletic director with direction and be accountable for the total school district program including budget items and personnel.
  • Develop a working relationship with the Hoquiam Boosters' Club and the Grizzly Alumni Association and be available to work with these groups and others so as to promote Grizzly sports as well as Grizzly Athletics.
  • Be a positive and visible member of our community at all times.
  • Be viewed as an education leader amongst staff throughout the district.
  • Provide input to the Hoquiam Athletic Handbook yearly, such as lettering criteria, awards policy, job descriptions or the Athletic Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain and promote a fair and consistent discipline code to the Hoquiam athlete
  • Communicate with other coaches regarding program development and the sharing of athletes.
  • Work to maintain a positive relationship with your players during the off-season.
  • Maintain contact with athletes in regards to their weight room attendance and other off season activities.
  • Other duties as assigned
Pre- Season:
  • Arrange to attend the annual rules clinic.
  • Have schedules, team rules, copies of the Athletic Code of Conduct and clearance/consent forms available at a pre-season parents meeting.
  • Assist in the inventory of all incoming equipment.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director equipment needs for the program.
  • Conduct meetings prior to the season with the Head Coach to discuss coaching assignments, practice responsibilities and scouting responsibilities.
  • Work with athletes academically so as to help those that struggle stay on graduation course.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid cards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
During Season:
  • Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the sport.
  • Work with the Head Coach to establish a fair and consistent means of selecting and evaluating players and team and communicate this to parents and athletes.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of all players' strengths and weaknesses.
  • Emphasize safety precautions.
  • Be educated of proper conditioning, training and injury procedures.
  • Maintain a current CPR and First Aid card.
  • Keep accurate reports on injured players and maintain lines of communication with the Athletic Director or others in charge of injuries or back-to-play releases.
  • Teach the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Assume responsibility for the constant care of equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain proper supervision of fields, locker rooms, weight room and other facilities during use by players. Monitor student behavior while transporting students to games/activities.
  • Discipline athletes in a consistent manner while providing a means for parents and athletes to discuss concerns with you.
  • Be a positive, motivating and enthusiastic member of our coaching staff and present yourself in a professional manner when dealing with parents and students.
  • Attend all scheduled practices, meetings and contests.
Post- Season:
  • Assist the Head Coach in all post season activities.
  • Assist in the inventory of all equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current First Aid and CPR endorsement or be enrolled in the course.
  • Must be at least 21 years or older.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Prior coaching experience or playing experience in the sport is given preference.
  • Proof of citizenship(driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, passport)
  • Must have a Washington State Patrol/FBI fingerprint background check on file.
  • Complete Hoquiam School District training.
  • Ability to commit to attending each practice and contest.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the sport skill, strategy and rules.

Stipend: $3,906.73 - $5,441.09

Coach Benefits: One hour of sick leave for every forty (40) hours worked.

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
