Job Title: CNC Setup / Operator
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Setup / Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position involves setting up and operating CNC machines (mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines) to produce high-quality precision parts according to engineering specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with machine setup, tooling selection, blueprint reading, and quality control to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Pay Scale: Hourly Rate: $20 $35 per hour (depending on experience, certifications, and location)
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup & Operation:
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines according to work instructions.
- Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and workpieces for production runs.
- Load raw materials and oversee machining operations to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Modify machine programs as needed to optimize efficiency and reduce waste.
- Quality Control & Inspection:
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications.
- Perform first article and in-process inspections, making necessary adjustments to maintain tolerances.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues related to machine performance, tooling, and material defects.
- Maintenance & Safety:
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure proper function.
- Follow company safety procedures, including proper handling of tools and equipment.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Process Improvement & Collaboration:
- Work closely with engineers, programmers, and quality control personnel to improve machining processes.
- Suggest improvements in tooling, fixtures, and setups to increase productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of production, machine adjustments, and quality control checks.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Required:
- Experience setting up and operating CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical documents.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
- Understanding of CNC machine programming fundamentals (G-code, M-code).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for machining and tooling issues.
- Preferred:
- Experience with Haas or Mazak controls.
- Background in ISO 9001, AS9100, or aerospace/automotive manufacturing.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement strategies.
Work Environment:
- Full-time role in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to machining equipment, metalworking fluids, and noise.
- Standing for extended periods and handling materials up to 50 lbs.
