The CNC Operator / Digital Fabrication Specialist is the cornerstone of our fabrication and installation team, responsible for orchestrating the operation of various CNC platforms for digital fabrication projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of CNC and robotic platforms within the workshop (3- and 5-axis machines, laser, plasma, 3D printing, etc)
- Create, edit, and run CNC cut files and machine code (MasterCAM) for diverse project needs
- Manipulate 2D and 3D models for machining and design of custom tooling/fixtures
- Perform equipment maintenance and repairs to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
- Follow and prioritize safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment
- Ensure precision and consistency between physical output and digital designs
- Conduct quality checks to ensure components meet exact design specifications
- Track and manage inventory of CNC-related materials to ensure availability and reduce waste
- Utilize the latest technology, tools, software, and workflows. Must be comfortable learning and adapting to new tech as we continuously upgrade our systems.
- Support production planning by collaborating with the fabrication director and other departments
- Independently solve technical issues and develop machining strategies for complex parts
- Traveling install support as needed
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience as CNC operator, digital fabrication, or commercial additive manufacturing
- Strong experience in CAD/CAM programming and foam cutting
- Proficiency in MasterCAM, RhinoCAM
- Proven track record of successful operation of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines
- Solid understanding of standard milling and turning, and general machine shop practices
- Experience in machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
- Experience designing and programming custom jigs, fixtures, and toolpaths
- Forklift or heavy machinery certification is a plus
