CNC Programmer Purpose of the Position:

Analyze production schedule and nesting priorities and write complex CNC programs that will be used to manufacture essential component parts. Need to utilize various CNC programming software to convert CAD geometry and blueprints into machine instructions. This will typically involve CNC laser cutting and punching equipment, but it may involve other process equipment such as plasma cutting or bending machines.

Essential job functions:
    • Writing, creating, and optimizing tool and path programs for manufactured parts.
    • Developing efficient nests for CNC machines that optimize material utilization and run time.
    • Work with design and manufacturing engineers to develop the most effective geometry for existing and future process equipment.
    • Maintain program control such that current design geometry is always used for shop floor programs.
    • Manage database where programming geometry and programs are stored.
    • Assess and recommend tooling changes or upgrades based on effectiveness of part programs.
    • Coordinate with software supplier to ensure that programming software is maintained and current.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Proficient at writing complex CNC nesting programs for use in the production process for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Highly effective at utilizing various CNC nesting and programming software to achieve optimal machine performance. Examples are TruTops, SigmaNest, Radan, and AP100.
  • Able to exercise independent judgment and discretion to obtain maximum utilization of all raw materials used in the production and manufacturing process.
  • Able to regularly make decisions regarding matters of significance related to the production process with little or no direct supervision.
  • Able to utilize a network infrastructure to communicate to machine controls located remotely on the manufacturing floor.
  • Extensive training and experience in the field of CNC programming.
  • Experienced with turret punch tooling capabilities and application of tooling across a wide variety of material types and thicknesses.
  • Experienced with laser and plasma cutting processes.
  • Ability to handle multiple and frequently changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities, as well as good math skills.
  • Exhibit good character traits such as initiative, excellent attendance, desire to learn, honesty, and a positive attitude
