Hendrick Motorsports is seeking a highly skilled and motivated
CNC Programmer to join our championship-winning engine program. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in CNC programming for high-performance engine components, with a deep understanding of motorsport standards and precision manufacturing. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with advanced technical skills to support the production of top-tier engine parts that meet the rigorous demands of competitive motorsports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: - Read, interpret, and program CNC machines with data from technical drawings or specifications.
- Create or modify 3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis CNC programs for production runs including entering instructions, setting tool registers, and calculating requirements.
- Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
- Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
- Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
- Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.
- Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
- Clean machines, tooling, or parts using solvents or solutions and rags. Also responsible for cleaning the shop and ensuring safe housekeeping on an ongoing basis.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
- Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to produce the component or part to specification.
- Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Must be able to use tools, such as lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as needed to perform required requested work.
- Other duties assigned by management.
Desired Education: Desired Work Experience: Education/Experience: - 5+ years in similar role.
- Extensive knowledge of hand tools, drill press, grinders, and other machine shop equipment is required.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings to manufacture components to tolerance is required.
- Experience with HAAS/FANUC based CNC controls is required.
Computer Skills: - Requires basic computer skills.
- Requires thorough understanding of G&M code programming.
- Requires minimum of 5+ years experience using a CAD/CAM software suite to program lathes and mills- Siemens NX experience preferred.
- Ideal candidate has experience using a PDM system to store and retrieve CAD/CAM data- Siemens TeamCenter preferred.
Physical Demands: Requires vision (near, peripheral, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - hearing protection, safety glasses, and hand protection. Constantly stands, walks, manually manipulates, lifts/carries 10 pounds or less, and pushes/pulls 12 pounds or less. Frequently reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Occasionally walks, sits, reaches above shoulder, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to and over 100 pounds, and pushes/pull to up 100 pounds.
Environment Demands: Primarily works indoors. Work does involve continuous exposure to hazardous unpleasant elements, such as dust, fumes, chemicals, and poignant odors.
