Description The Digital Modernization Sector offers an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Solutions Engineer to support the US Space Force's Space Systems Command (SSC) at Kobayashi Maru. This key role focuses on developing and deploying critical software for space defense and domain awareness, along with enabling data services. With an emphasis on hands-on tactical engineering, this position allows you to engage actively with innovative technology while also providing essential team support.
Primary Responsibilities: - Design, deploy, and manage virtual cloud infrastructures across hybrid environments, including on-premises and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud (IaaS & PaaS).
- Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi and Hyper-V, along with cloud-native virtualization solutions.
- Automate deployments and configurations using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
- Provision, maintain, and scale cloud resources, collaborating efficiently with cross-functional teams.
- Monitor cloud resource utilization for cost efficiency and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system, application, and infrastructure issues, performing thorough root cause analysis as necessary.
- Ensure infrastructure adheres to security, compliance, and operational standards within a DevSecOps framework.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and integrate infrastructure automation into the development lifecycle.
- Implement and manage containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes, for microservices architectures.
- Configure and maintain monitoring tools to guarantee system and application availability and performance.
- Identify optimizations to enhance efficiency, reduce latency, and ensure system uptime.
- Apply security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), network segmentation, and encryption, to safeguard hybrid cloud infrastructures.
- Assist in audits and compliance initiatives (e.g., RMF, NIST, ISO 27001).
- Provide Tier-2/3 support for escalated issues, collaborating with internal teams and external vendors.
- Document procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps to improve knowledge sharing.
- Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to team growth and development initiatives.
Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree with 8+ years relevant experience or a Master's degree with 6+ years relevant experience; additional years of experience may substitute for a degree.
- Possession of a DoD-8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (Security+ CE or equivalent).
- Active AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer certification.
- Proficiency in virtualization technologies, including VMware and Hyper-V.
- Strong expertise in public cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
- Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration platforms, like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and incident management processes.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Practical knowledge of DevSecOps principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Must hold an active Secret Clearance.
Preferred Skills and Certifications: - Cloud Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer. Security Certifications: CISSP, CEH, GIAC, or Cloud Security Automation (GCSA).
- Experience with security frameworks (e.g., RMF, NIST 800-53).
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages, such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Familiarity with log management and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, or ELK stack).

Pay Range: Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
