The Cloud Operations Manager will lead a team of cloud and software engineers, supporting custom applications and enterprise applications in AWS The manager will have a proficient, solid understanding and hands on experience in at least one programming language (e.g. Java, Python, Javascript, etc.) and be proficient with DevOps, CI/CD practices and agile disciplines and use those skills to build a standard and consistent process for software deployment and application operations. The manager will also be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the AWS managed services environment. This is a hands-on supervisory position reporting to the IT Operations Director.
The Manager, Cloud Operations has the following responsibilities:
• Provide guidance and expertise in AWS cloud computing and operations.
• Develop and enforce best practices for cloud operations, including security, monitoring, and cost management.
• Work with staff and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to cloud infrastructure.
• Establish and maintain regular communications with peers, technical operations, application development, help desk operations teams, supplier management and vendors regarding changes and improvement opportunities.
• Mentor junior team members, working to expand their practical technical skills, critical thinking, troubleshooting capabilities and professional development.
• Make decisions on technical considerations, escalate those decisions that need higher level of approval.
• Work with Sr leadership and other managers to meet goals and provide business solutions.
• Responsible for assessing talent, identifying gaps, and provide development mentorship and provide opportunities for stretch roles to develop future leaders.
• Manage relationships between our external technology partners and business stakeholders.
• Sets performance standards and holds team members accountable to standards.
• Forecasts needed resources such as vendors, technologies, consultants, staffing needs, and training for the team to accomplish business objectives, validation, testing and acceptance for Technical Operations solutions.
• Lead an agile and DevOps based process for software deployments.
• Keep abreast of new technologies, evaluate alternative solutions, and propose cost savings ideas.
• Identify and Manage budget.
• Oversee design and implementation of client's deployment pipelines, engaging Development, SQA and Security teams to provide standardized builds and deployments.
• Ensure SLAs for the teams are upheld; ensure escalated issues are handled appropriately and in a timely manner.
• Manage and prioritize team's work.
• Manage work efforts based on ITIL framework.
• Conduct regular performance reviews.
Required Skills

• Minimum 5 years experience as a programmer.
• Minimum 2 years experience managing staff.
• Minimum 3 years direct experience working in AWS environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge of how to use various DevOps tools and technologies (source code management, continuous integration, containerization, code quality analysis, etc).
• Experience using tools such as Jira, BitBucket, Jenkins.
• Ability oversee multiple cloud and devops projects, keeping them on time and on budget.
• Effectively plan, organize, and execute tasks, projects, and initiatives.
• Critical thinking and analysis skills.
• Strong process development skills.
• Strong people management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple efforts concurrently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; will be deeply involved in numerous discussions with business partners, vendors, and varied organization leaders.
