POSITION: Cloud Engineer LOCATION: Carlisle, PA SCOPE: Serve as a Cloud Engineer on a major IT support contract for the Army War College (AWC). The AWS Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure. This role includes configuring AWS resources, managing security policies, automating deployments, and optimizing cloud performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AWS services, networking, and infrastructure as code (IaC). This hybrid remote position requires a minimum of two (2) days per week in the office. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• AWS Administration:
Manage AWS resources, including EC2 instances, S3 storage, RDS databases, and VPC networking.
Deploy and configure AWS services such as IAM, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
Optimize AWS cost and performance through monitoring and resource adjustments.
Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation. Security & Compliance:
Enforce security best practices using AWS IAM policies, security groups, and encryption.
Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
Implement compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, FedRAMP) as required.
Monitor AWS environments for security threats and respond to incidents (Trellis, Splunk). Automation & DevOps:
Develop CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, and GitHub Actions.
Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to streamline cloud operations. Networking & Performance Optimization:
Configure and manage VPCs, subnets, route tables, and VPN connections.
Optimize cloud workloads for performance, availability, and scalability.
Troubleshoot AWS networking issues, including load balancing and DNS. Troubleshooting & Support:
Diagnose and resolve AWS infrastructure and service-related issues.
Provide technical support to developers and other teams using AWS.
Monitor and analyze system performance, logs, and alerts. Documentation:
Maintain documentation for AWS architectures, policies, and procedures.
Create playbooks and knowledge base articles for troubleshooting. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stay up to date with the latest AWS technologies and best practices.
Participate in on-call rotation for incident response.
Collaborate with other IT teams to enhance cloud strategies and implementations. QUALIFICATIONS:
• Assoc-Tech degree preferred
• 4 years of relevant work experience; 2+ years of hands-on experience in AWS cloud administration, DevOps, or cloud engineering.
• Required Certification: IAT-2 (Security+)
• Preferred Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate; AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional; AWS Certified Security - Specialty SECURITY CLEARANCE:
Ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance is required
