Position Summary: We are seeking a technically skilled and self-driven
Cloud Engineer - Tier 2 to support and enhance cloud infrastructure within a large-scale healthcare IT environment consisting of 70 hospitals. This role provides advanced operational support, troubleshooting, and optimization of cloud services-primarily within Microsoft Azure.
The Tier 2 Cloud Engineer will act as a key escalation point for Tier 1 support, drive improvements in reliability and automation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure and stable cloud operations.
Key Responsibilities:Advanced Support & Troubleshooting - Manage escalated incidents and service requests related to Azure cloud infrastructure (VMs, networking, storage, backups, etc.).
- Perform in-depth troubleshooting of cloud performance, connectivity, and resource deployment issues.
- Analyze logs and telemetry data to identify root causes and propose solutions.
Infrastructure Management - Following governance, compliance, and security best practices, implement and support cloud infrastructure.
- Execute and improve automation scripts for deployments and routine maintenance using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools (ARM, Bicep, Terraform).
- Maintain and update cloud resource configurations in line with architectural and business requirements.
Monitoring & Optimization - Use Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and other tools to proactively monitor the health, usage, and performance of cloud resources.
- Identify inefficiencies and provide recommendations for cost optimization and service improvement.
- Participate in change control and service review meetings.
Collaboration & Mentorship - Partner with application, Windows, and network teams to ensure cloud resource alignment.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Tier 1 engineers.
- Assist in knowledge base development and SOP documentation.
Requirements
Required Qualifications: - 3+ years of experience in cloud operations, systems engineering, or infrastructure support.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS services (VMs, storage, networking, RBAC, Azure AD).
- Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar).
- Working knowledge of hybrid cloud environments, virtual networks, and identity/access management.
- Familiarity with ITSM practices and tools (ServiceNow preferred).
- Must be U.S.-based and authorized to work without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: - Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate or equivalent
- ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Additional Experience:
- Experience supporting cloud infrastructure in healthcare or other regulated environments.
- Familiarity with cloud security frameworks, compliance (HIPAA, HITRUST), and role-based access models.
- Exposure to DevOps or CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.).
Work Environment: - Remote position with close collaboration with teams and leadership based in San Antonio, TX.
- Occasional after-hours support or participation in on-call rotations may be required.
