UPMC is looking for a Cloud Architect to join their team. This Position will be primarily remote but will require ON-SITE work when needed.

Description

The Cloud Architect position requires a degree of technical architecture expertise in the areas of cloud, security, network, and systems design to drive development, DevOps, implementation, and automation across various domains and projects. This member of the Cloud Architect team is responsible for the UPMC Cloud computing architecture components including, but not limited to infrastructure, platform, software, networking, and security. S/He contributes to strategic planning and participates in feasibility analysis on potential future projects. This position will be involved in the development, maturation, and integration of Cloud Architecture based on customer provided requirements. S/He is responsible for the Cloud infrastructure design and development for all internal and external programs requiring cloud and hybrid hosting and integration needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Works with internal and external members to develop architectural strategies and guidelines in support of the UPMC cloud computing strategy.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots architecture related issues in a timely fashion.
  • Involved in pre-sales to develop end-to-end POC and testing of infrastructure solutions in Azure and integration on-prem.
  • Serves as escalation point for Cloud Engineering and Operations teams support and issues.
  • Provides inputs into the strategic direction, guidance and integration of products and services based on feasibility analyses conducted with others. Understands and aligns to corporate and departmental goals.
  • Evaluates existing systems against future strategic needs and develops a technical roadmap that incorporates new, existing, and third-party custom solutions to meet the strategic needs of the organization.
  • Analyzes existing Cloud architectures to identify inefficiencies, redundancies, obsolescence, and technology support gaps.
  • Participates in the Cloud Center of Excellence. Drives process for technical reviews and enforces secure and quality Cloud engineering best practices for assigned projects.
  • Provides technical design and Cloud architecture recommendations on major new platforms and products. Provides guidance to project teams in all phases of SDLC.
  • Documents Cloud architecture and design, performs research and analysis required for project proposals, system modifications, and new products.
  • Reviews the overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance of Cloud environments.
  • Oversee implementation and solution teams to translate design into delivery.
  • Maintains current industry knowledge and trends, keeps abreast of new and innovative technologies, attends educational events, and participates in stakeholder collaboration as appropriate.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills. Able to provide executive updates in both written and spoken format.
  • Develop team members through mentoring, coaching, and best practice collaboration to provide stretch opportunities.
Qualifications

An undergraduate degree in computer science, information science, engineering, mathematics, or management, or equivalent work experience preferred.

5+ years of Cloud Engineering or Cloud Architect and 5-7 years of overall IT experience in mid to complex sized organization.

Azure Certified Solutions Architect required.

Google or AWS Certification preferred.

Multi-cloud experience preferred.

Must have a Security mindset with an understanding of HIPAA and Data Privacy.

Deep understanding of system development in cloud environments, including Software as Service (SaaS), Platform as Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

Sound understanding of Identity and Access Management standards and best practices.

Technical proficiency and business knowledge on Cloud computing, DevOps tooling, and infrastructure as code.

Understanding of Container services.

Ability to script using PowerShell.

Ability to develop complex Azure Resource Manager Templates

Excellent troubleshooting skills. Demonstrates the ability to anticipate and solve large, complex technical problems by performing work that is highly complex and varied in nature.

Strategic thinking and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to combine broad technical, and business factors.

Experience architecting highly available and mission-critical systems.

Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication with good presentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to think outside the box and innovate beyond state of the art.
