SCOPE OF POSITION: Acting as an organizational resource, this position provides clinical, educational and professional support for the evening/night nursing staff. This position, which requires advanced /expert clinical nursing skill and knowledge, will enhance clinical support for patients, with, or potential for, physiological instability. Will serve as a resource and role model to staff in professional practice. RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs as a clinical expert/resource to maintain and improve nursing practice on the evening/night shift Validates competencies and skills based on employee specific needs assessment Provide/coordinate experiential and Unit/Department specific learning opportunities Support hospital-wide initiatives through designing and implementing education and communication to assigned staff Identifies and communicates clinical competency issues to the appropriate Clinical Director Facilitate efficient on-going care on units, participating in special functions as needed. Assists in short term crisis' that include, but are not limited to Code 3, Rapid Responses, Trauma Alerts, ICU transport for radiological procedures and troubleshooting equipment Incorporates research into clinical practice and standards development and/or revisions. Provides consultation to health care providers and others to influence care plans, enhance ability to provide health care and affect change in systems. Educates staff and students, formally or informally, to enhance their ability to provide patient care. Works with the Medical Care Team to facilitate patient flow and appropriateness of level of care to patient condition. Maintains and develops own clinical expertise and knowledge in specialty nursing practice Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor Degree in Nursing required, Master's Degree preferred Current CT RN license. BLS/ACLS certification required. At least 5 years recent acute care clinical experience in appropriate specialty preferred. Evidence of continuing education, experiences and competency in the acute care area necessary. Maintenance of all above licenses and certifications required. Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
