TITLE: Clinical Director, Radiation Oncologist
DEPARTMENT: Radiation Oncology
REPORT TO: System Director of Radiation Oncology
SUMMARY: The System Director of Radiation Oncology shall provide necessary leadership and direction to enhance the quality, image, and future growth of the Department. The primary responsibility of the clinical director of the radiation oncology facility will be to work with the System Director of Radiation Oncology/Director of Radiation Oncology Services of RWJBH to assure the successful and safe operations of the radiation oncology facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Clinical Director's responsibilities, as a member of Radiation Oncology Department, shall be subject to the direction of the System Director of Radiation Oncology and include but not be limited to the following:
- Clinical Responsibilities:
- The Clinical Director shall devote time, attention and energy reasonably required to provide clinical care to the patients of the Radiation Oncology Department.
- The Clinical Director shall devote all of the time, attention and energy reasonably required to provide clinical care as an attending for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital - Somerset (RWJHU-SOM) patients.
- The Clinical Director shall take night and weekend calls for the Radiation Oncology Department per schedule and as determined by Radiation Oncology Department.
- Teaching Responsibilities (4 hours per week)
- The Clinical Director shall have teaching responsibilities as reasonably delegated by the System Director of Radiation Oncology.
- The Clinical Director shall participate in community and physician outreach programs as designated by the System Director of Radiation Oncology. The director will be expected to promote the facility by developing relationships with local referring physicians and will work with the local hospital and cancer center leadership to promote and grow the radiation oncology facility and other cancer related activities at the center. The director will collaborate with Rutgers CINJ affiliated faculty and staff to open relevant clinical trials and refer patients requiring more complex care such as proton beam, complex brachytherapy or other radiation options not available at the local facility.
- The Clinical Director shall participate in Medical Education programs as needed.
- The Clinical Director shall conduct ongoing performance improvement reviews in accordance with governmental and RWJUH - SOM guidelines.
- The Clinical Director will work closely with other radiation oncology providers (if any), the chief therapists, physicists and dosimetrist, nursing and other leadership to promote quality initiatives and in assuring that chart rounds, planning rounds, patient scheduling, and overall operations are appropriately coordinated and functioning to provide optimal workflow and patient care to promote excellence in patient care delivery.
- The Clinical Director will work to assure that the facility meets the standards for Radiation Oncology Accreditation through the ACR or ASTRO Accreditation programs (or other appropriate accreditation programs adopted by the Radiation Oncology Department), and ensure that the facility is appropriately covered during daily operations and on-call as per institutional policy.
