Job DescriptionThe City of Renton's Client Technology Services team has an exciting internship opportunity for current students whose interest and intention is to work in the Information Technology field. We are looking for someone who can provide excellent front line customer service and telephone support to end users; identify and resolve critical problems under the guidance of Information Technology (IT) staff; and determine the most appropriate methods to complete service requests for end users. This is a temporary position, limited to a one-year duration, and is anticipated to be full time during the summer months and part time during the school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Answer and record the IT Service Desk requests (i.e. phones calls, emails, walk-ins).
- Respond to client requests for service on problematic systems and/or equipment
- Troubleshoot problems in conjunction with other staff to develop solutions; make minor repairs to equipment and arrange for other servicing needs.
- Follow, develop, and document procedures for systems installations and support.
- Install hardware, operating systems, and application software.
- Unpack, inventory, and configure workstations, printers, scanners, and other technology edge devices.
- Order computing system consumables as directed.
- Serve as the liaison between users and hardware vendors on warranty issues.
- Assist other IT staff members on special projects as assigned.
- Stay current on the diversity of hardware and software for workstations, printers, scanners, laptops, and pen-based computing technology.
- Operate, adjust, modify, and install a wide variety of computers, peripherals, software and communications equipment to facilitate repair, upgrade and installation of equipment.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology related program of study.
- Valid driver's license.

- Successful passing of a required background check and national fingerprint-based background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work is performed in an office environment, and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions.

This position requires driving and is also subject to a driving record check from the WA State Dept. of Licensing (or other state equivalent). Driving records will be evaluated based on a points system depending on the infraction and severity. This position requires accessing areas that contain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS). For that reason, this position is also subject to a national fingerprint-based records check.
This position accrues sick leave, but is
not eligible for the City's benefit programs.
