OVERVIEW
The Client Accounting Services (CAS) Manager is responsible for managing client accounting and financial functions while leading and mentoring accounting staff to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial operations. This role offers direct client interaction, exposure to various industries, and the opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Key responsibilities include overseeing complex accounting projects, conducting financial reviews, training and developing team members, managing client relationships, and contributing to strategic planning efforts to enhance client service and support firm-wide goals.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform/review core functions of client finance and accounting operations: key account reconciliations, month-end close procedures, preparation of financial statements, analyze financial data and reports, etc. as needed in scope of each engagement.
- Provide consulting services for clients regarding financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, processes, procedures, analysis of metrics and KPIs, and other general business.
- Review of payroll and related monthly, quarterly, and annual returns.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting staff, external or internal, by reviewing quality of work, adherence to procedures, timeliness of deliverables and adherence to client budgets.
- Onboard new clients and train assigned team members on client processes, procedures, and team roles.
- Create onboarding plan for new clients, setting up accounting systems tailored to their needs.
- Perform Controller services for clients in multiple industry sectors when needed.
- Collaborate with tax and audit teams to provide integrated service and planning for clients.
- Assist in business development, fee estimates, proposals, and engagement letters.
- Maintain contacts with peers, develop a network of business contacts, meet with prospective clients, and cultivate referrals.
- Identify and participate in marketing activities to include: networking events, writing blogs, presenting at tradeshows/lunch and learns, or presenting training to staff and clients.
- Evaluate, develop, and improve department controls, systems, and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency. Address any issues, to adhere to budgets and realization.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, accounting regulations and CAS best practices.
- Manage billings and assist with timely collections.
- Other duties as assigned.
RECOMMENDED SKILLS:
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- QuickBooks experience a plus (Pro Certification preferred)
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients regarding recommendations, discrepancies and resolutions in addition to routine matters and questions.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to lead and develop staff.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adhere closely to budgets for client projects.
- Excellent attention to detail and perform duties efficiently and with minimal errors.
- Ability to review work of staff accountants with minimal errors or corrections.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Consistent attendance, reliability, and adherence to standard office schedule.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- CPA or EA required.
- 5+ years of experience in a controller/CFO role or client accounting services role in a public accounting firm.
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this role now or in the future
