Job Description

Location: Motor Vehicle Division Building, Ankeny, Iowa
Shift Requirements: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
As a Clerk Specialist, you will work with our Motor Carrier team that is responsible for the administration of the state's Vehicle Titling and Registration Program which supports 4.4 million vehicle owners across the state and collects over $592,000,000 in revenue for the Road Use Tax Fund. Additionally, we administer the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), International Registration Plan (IRP), Unified Carrier Registration (UCR), Intrastate Authority, Transportation Network Companies (TNC), Transit Fuel, Titling of Commercial vehicles, and Oversize/Overweight Permitting. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

- Provide a high level of customer service when answering phones, emails, and at our front counter.

- Accurately process and review applications for IFTA, IRP, UCR and issue travel authority in a timely manner.

- Accurately review and issue permits for over size and overweight loads with a short turnaround time.

- Review and process quarterly tax returns for individual carriers and large fleet carriers to make sure they continue to operate legally.

- Collaborate with other county, state, and federal agencies such as law enforcement, bridges and structures, county secondary roads and other jurisdictions.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;
OR
certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk-Advanced.
