Job Description

Our Motor Vehicle Division is looking to fill a Clerk Specialist position. As a member of our team, you'll play a vital role in maintaining safe mobility for every traveler in our state by providing upbeat, quality, and professional customer service and meeting customer needs in all program areas of the office. This is done by reviewing applications, requesting personal information from motor vehicle records, and maintaining records of current Driver's Privacy Protection Act agreements.

Location: Systems and Administration Bureau, MVD, Ankeny, Iowa
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; Flex schedule available
Your Responsibilities:
- The Records team coordinates all activities necessary to maintain Iowa records accurately, securely, and lawfully. The Records team assures policies and procedures comply with all applicable state and federal regulations, including, but not limited to Iowa Code Chapters 321, 321A, 321C, and 321J, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations applicable to commercial drivers, the REAL ID regulated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act Iowa Code 321.11.
- Review and maintain complex driving records according to Iowa Code, Administrative Rules, and the federal Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act (MCSIA).
- Review violations of the OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) Implied Consent Law and OWI court convictions and sanction the driving record as required by law.
- Review Informal Appeal requests and make decisions within the guidelines of Iowa Law and Administrative Rules.
- Prepare hearing cases for the Department of Inspection, Appeals and Licensing, Director Review, and District Court.
- Issue lifts for customers who have complied with the Iowa Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law and sanction customers who have failed to maintain SR22 insurance.
- Generate suspensions for customers that have unpaid traffic fines as indicated by the clerks of court in Iowa as well as other states; lift those suspensions when the customer complies.
- Review requests from accredited school administrators to suspend a minor's license for failure to attend school.
- Sanction the driving record of individuals identified by the Dept. of Human Services for non-payment of child support.
- Update federal medical certificates and CDL self-certifications.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;
OR
certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk-Advanced.
