Part Time Lab Clerk
Job Summary The objective of this position is to assist Chemists/lab personnel in setting up and carrying out industry-based testing efforts. The position is expected to be able to work cooperatively across inter-disciplinary teams to help meet customer demands and ultimately achieve Southwire's R&D goals. This role is expected to help create and maintain a clean organized environment that reflects 5S principles. Data analysis or reporting of test results is expected to be carried out professionally. In this role, candidates will be exposed to complex projects across the wire and cable industry, engineering principles, testing methodologies, and other relevant industry related business practices that can help develop valuable experience/skills for future opportunities.
Key Responsibilities Prepare and test products per certification body standards (UL, CSA, ICEA, etc.) including physical property testing (tensile and elongation) and Small Scale Flame (VW-1, Horizontal/FT-2, Burning Particles)
Report clear and concise data to Polymer Chemist and/or customers
Occasionally Perform tasks that require lifting a weight of at least 25 lbs.
Read and understand test procedures called out in certification body standards (UL, CSA, ICEA, etc.)
Ability to adapt to change quickly while still resolving current issues and presenting solutions/data
Assist in product development through testing new products
Responsible for keeping a clean and organized workspace
Education, Experience, and Skills Minimum Education Level: High School Diploma
Specialized Degree: Chemistry, Physics, Material Science
Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates: Ability to work at least 20 hours per week
Excellent listening, communication and written skills
Energetic and passionate with a flexible spirit
Ability to proactively identify problems and propose effective solutions
Ability to work and complete projects independently, as well as within a team environment
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
