THE POSITIONUnder general supervision, provides journey level instruction in support of fitness programs including instructing, supervising and training youth and adults participating in fitness programs; prepares and maintains facilities and equipment for classes, markets classes.

- Organizes, schedules, develops and teaches beginning to advanced group fitness classes for a variety of age groups.
- Teaches skills and ensures proper form.
- Promotes and enforces safety procedures; render first aid and CPR, if certified, as required.
- Maintains materials, facilities, and equipment.
- Takes registration and records class attendance.
- Sets up and takes down equipment and prepares venue for activities and events.
- Communicates with general public, community resource agencies, and other organizations in order to coordinate and promote program activities.
- Evaluates programs for effectiveness and participation levels; tracks classes provided, monitors results.
- May assist in preparing special events.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent GED.
AND
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in teaching fitness, aerobics, group exercise or personal training.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSRequired Licenses or Certifications: Depending on assignment, a valid driver's license and safe driving record may be required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Special Requirements: Must be able to work extended hours as needed, often outside regular business hours as required class schedules.
May be required to pass a background investigation.
Must possess valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
May be required to work overtime, and evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.
