Job Summary: The TTC Class A Shop Technician position supports the shop operations by performing higher level mechanical maintenance and repair functions in addition to routine mechanical and preventive maintenance duties; inspections, maintenance and repair. Performs and maintains required computerized and manual records of all repairs. Coordinates repairs with technicians. These duties are consistently performed in adherence to company policies, procedures, values and behavioral expectations.

Essential Duties:
  • Accurately determines vehicle condition by always conducting thorough and prompt inspections and diagnostics tests; accurately identifies worn and damaged parts.
  • Consistently and accurately maintains computerized records using company authorized maintenance computer software.
  • Provides excellent road service to fleet vehicles as required.
  • Accurately and promptly performs repairs and/or rebuilds transmissions and engines as required.
  • Performs highly effective and timely preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of transmissions, differentials, engines, injectors, steering systems, starters and universal joints.
  • Completes the proper installation and adjustment of brakes, batteries, tires and safety devices.
  • Overhauls all other major mechanical components.
  • Completes and maintains all necessary written and computer documentation in accordance with shop procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Consistently and accurately determines and orders correct parts for the effective completion of all job tasks.
  • Complies with OSHA regulations and shop health safety standards by wearing prescribed PPE's (personal protective equipment).
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, management directives and performance objectives.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment to optimize effective job performance and customer service.
  • Enhances the shop operations and the company's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests as well as exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains a professional and collaborative relationship with all customers, TTC team members and management.
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by shop foreman and/or shop manager.
Competencies:
  • Applies advanced knowledge in diesel mechanics to vehicular assets that require repair and preventative maintenance.
  • Accurately and promptly diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical issues with vehicular assets using designated diagnostic tools and software.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
  • 2 years minimum experience with truck/diesel maintenance/preventative maintenance experience required.
  • 2 years of air brake inspection (396.25) preferred.
  • Possesses the ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine the appropriate maintenance intervention.
  • Possesses the ability to effectively repair and maintain:
    • Repair and adjust engines
    • Air systems
    • A/C systems
    • Adjustments on brakes
    • Assess and/or install batteries
    • Install and/or repair tires
    • Install and/or repair safety devices
  • Assist with the overhauling of all other major components.
  • Performs inspections of equipment for operating deficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair all types of transmissions and low voltage electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency with all required shop tools and equipment including but not limited to computerized diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and adhere to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Assists team members in the proper and safe operation of all equipment.
  • Ability to work in a positive, fast paced and high energy environment.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a positive attitude; always demonstrates effective team behaviors that strengthens the shop and builds positive, professional relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and web based applications preferred.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Education/Training/Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • A/C certification preferred
  • DOT inspector qualifications (396.19) preferred
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver's License required, CDL Class A preferred

Introductory Period:

Progress reports at 30 and 60 days with a review by management at 90 days.
