Overview/Summary:
On-Board Engineering Corp. is hiring a full time Civil Structural Architectural (CSA) Engineer to be assigned to work at our Client's chemical manufacturing facility in Hopewell, VA. The CSA Engineer supports the design team throughout all phases of industrial capital projects-from conceptual design through start-up-across Client facilities. This role involves leading a wide range of projects, from simple to highly complex industrial components, including concrete pads, foundations, steel pipe supports, structural steel frames and platforms, stairs and ladders, sewers and drainage systems, paving, architectural building modifications, and more. The majority of projects involve retrofit (brownfield) construction.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform systems walk down to identify deficiencies and ensure scope compliance to design and plant requirements, such as structural inspections, drainage, infrastructure, etc
  • Learn, understand, and comply with all plant safety programs, rules and regulations to with HS&E (Health, Safety, & Environmental) procedures and regulations.
  • Learn, and use all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while working in all areas of the plant properly.
  • Ensure design drawings are compliant with federal, state, local, and plant codes/policies as required.
  • Work with other CSA engineers, designers, and other disciplines to collaborate and create 3D CAD models and design drawings.
  • Utilize or lead CSA designers in AutoCAD and CAD Worx Structure software to create 2D & 3D models and drawings for the various project designs.
  • Create and navigate Navisworks models.
  • Learn and utilize plant engineering standards and procedures.
  • Conduct site visits for field verification of existing conditions in an operating chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Read and search for existing plant drawings as well as OEM equipment drawings.
  • Review shop drawings from fabricators.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office products to communicate with project and plant teams and to create project deliverables.
  • Support plant operations with location and marking of underground utilities.
  • Review process packages and use engineering design and analysis concepts to write scopes of work, material take offs, and engineering budget hours to meet project requirements.
  • Use applicable codes to properly design and calculate materials for adequate structural capacity.
  • Track and maintain project schedules and engineering hours through Project Web App.
  • Compile data for project reports, collect, calculate, and compile field data, assist proposal efforts as directed, document technical data for management review, and provide other project duties as needed.
  • Develop and review design packages to ensure that project requirements, engineering standards, and applicable design and building codes are met.
  • Collect, review, calculate and interpret data, to provide engineering recommendations on repairs or designs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four (4) year accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years' experience required in a similar role
  • Successful passing of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Understanding of ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, and PIP codes and regulations
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in any US state (Virginia preferably)
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing facility (chemical, pulp/paper, refinery, etc.)
  • Experience with Structural design practices and materials (i.e. steel, concrete)
  • Experience with Civil design practices and materials (i.e. Subsurface pipes, paving, drainage, etc.)
  • Experience with building code requirements (i.e. Fire ratings, Egress, etc.)
  • Use of Subsurface utility locators (i.e. Ground Penetration Radar, Pipe & Cable locator)
  • Experience in 3D modeling utilizing AutoCAD and/or CAD Worx Structure software to create 3D models and drawings
  • Experience with Finite Element Software, such as Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis

Working Conditions:
This role is primarily office-based, with work performed on a computer. However, fieldwork is required as needed for each project. Field activities may involve walking, climbing ladders, stairs, and platforms to take measurements or verify conditions within an active chemical plant. Fire-resistant uniforms are provided, and certain areas may require additional PPE, such as acid suits and face shields
