Detailed Position Information
The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) and the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama invite applications for the Thad J. and Nona F. Gomillion Endowed Professorship in Civil Engineering. We are seeking a collaborative leader across the broad areas of architectural, civil, construction and environmental engineering. Candidates from under-represented groups in Architectural, Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.

The CCEE department and College aim to: (1) add collaborative faculty who will build upon existing strengths in the Department, College, and University and (2) add faculty who will collaborate to expand the scope of research within the department, College, and University as a whole. The CCEE department and College consider teaching, research, and service as the three critical and complimentary portions of their overall mission. Candidates must possess a demonstrated ability to successfully lead, mentor, and extramurally fund a highly productive research group with significant scholarly impact in a focus area with long term potential to further build upon the rapid rise and great success of the CCEE department and the College. An ability to collaborate with existing faculty in the key focus areas both within the CCEE department and the College, as well as potential colleagues across the campus, is also highly desirable.

The department, college and university are notable for the collegial, welcoming and supportive spirit we demonstrate to our students, faculty, and staff; thus, candidates must demonstrate an ability to support this aspect of our community. The CCEE department and College also pride themselves on the outstanding educational experience provided to their students, and thus faculty candidates must demonstrate an ability to develop and teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the faculty member's area(s) of expertise as well as to teach courses that support the delivery and accreditation of the CCEE department's core degree programs.

The department offers ABET/EAC accredited Bachelor of Science degrees in architectural engineering, civil engineering, construction engineering, and environmental engineering. The department also offers six minors in the areas of architectural, civil, construction, environmental and water resources, transportation, and structural engineering. At the graduate level, the department offers the Master of Science in civil engineering, the Master of Science in environmental engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering. The department also supports two dual-degree graduate programs - the joint MSCE/MBA and joint MSCE/JD.

Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University's academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Civil, Construction, Architectural, or Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Demonstrated record of prior research work and a record of impactful scholarly publications in refereed and other professional journals and venues. Leadership of substantial research endeavors at the lab, center or institute levels along with mentorship of early career colleagues. Demonstrated interest and/or record in engineering education and professional service in area of specialization. National and/or international stature in the field. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of experience as a tenure-track/tenured faculty member at a leading peer R1 institution. Demonstrated record of high-quality research and scholarly publications that is recognized nationally and/or internationally. Significant record of scholarship in an engineering department with undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Attainment, progress toward or demonstrated interest in professional licensure or other applicable professional certification (FE or PE). Exceptional collegial, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.

The UA College of Engineering is comprised of seven departments: (1) Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, (2) Chemical and Biological Engineering, (3) Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, (4) Computer Science, (5) Electrical and Computer Engineering, (6) Mechanical Engineering, and (7) Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. These departments currently deliver 13 different undergraduate degree programs and 15 different graduate degree programs. Overall, the College enrolls approximately 6,000 students, making it one of the largest colleges out of the more than 40,000 students on the UA campus.

While the university has been on a constant mission to advance in every aspect of its operations since its inception, The University of Alabama has in particular seen transformative growth in its research enterprise over the past decade.
