Doorways is an Arlington-based non-profit agency helping individuals and families create pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault leading to safe, stable and empowered lives. We envision a community where all people live free of violence and have safe and stable housing regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, abilities, language, or national origin. We see a future without homelessness or domestic and sexual violence.
We are seeking individuals to act as Children's Program Volunteer 3 hours per month (Two, 90-minute shifts on Mondays and Wednesdays) in our Domestic Violence Safe House. Volunteers interact with the children in our shelters by playing games, helping with homework, and otherwise engaging in healthy and fun activities that help the kids take their mind off their trauma. It also allows caregivers to relax, do chores, or attend support meetings on-site at the shelter. Bilingual volunteers (English/Spanish) are especially welcome to apply.
Volunteers must complete 40 hours of training in person and submit background checks. One year commitment required.
